Risa Goldstein
Vice President, Families with Young Children
As the Federation’s Vice President of Families with Young Children, I direct the visioning, planning, and execution of the Los Angeles Jewish community’s engagement of families with children under 12.
I launched and oversee all programs in the NuBloom initiative — LA jBabies, the Community Connector program, PJ Library in Los Angeles (the largest independent PJ community in North America), PJ Our Way, the Family Camp Project’s immersive Shabbat retreats, citywide festivals, and Momentum Moms.
Prior to my work here in LA, I enjoyed a career in children’s book publishing and book advertising in New York City.
Los Angeles Jewish family life is happening in so many new and creative ways, and the families I meet are on a journey to define this for themselves — not just their parents’ Judaism. I was once like them, and wish there were a me for the younger me, when I was a parent with young children.
“While it’s impossible for me to pick one PJ Library book to be my favorite, in my top five is “The Night World” by Mordicai Gerstein. It inspires the reader to see the world from a different perspective and open up to curiosity and wonder, reminding me of the words of Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel. ‘Live life in radical amazement,’ he taught. ‘Get up in the morning and look at the world in a way that takes nothing for granted. Everything is phenomenal.’ “
We can’t wait to meet you.
People are at the heart of everything we do. Driven by relationships and powered by the Federation, our team works with shared purpose and values to create extraordinary community experiences.
